Macy Gray covers Arcade Fire, Head Explodes

Macy Gray covering my favorite Arcade Fire Song, Wake Up. In a million years of guessing I would have never come up with this combo. Still undecided on how I feel about it, but sharing. I mean, I don't like Macy Gray and the DJ scratching was just odd, but it didn't suck. I'll have to ponder if I like this or not. Your thoughts?

New(ish) Asian Kung-fu Generation

Apparently my vast internet resources have failed me and an Asian Kung-fu Generation CD came out last November. Ok, so, I'm only a year behind. Embracing the punk tradition of super short albums, Surf Bungaku Kamakure comes in at just over 30 minutes. Hrmm. Setting that aside, I have enjoyed what I've heard so far. Don't get me wrong - I don't think they will ever surpass my favorite album of theirs, Sol-Fa. Still, AK-FG is one of my favorite J-rock bands so I am pretty pumped to get my hands on the whole album.

BONUS INFO: I have been playing a lot of Jrockers Art-School here recently, too, if you haven't checked them out.

New Lecrae video: Go Hard

I just found out there is a new Lecrae video. Sweet. Go Hard isn't my favorite song off his new album (seriously, can we get a real video for Got Paper already?) but is still a solid song. The song iteself sort of reminds me of one of my favorite Lecrae songs, Send Me (included as a bonus at the end of this post). If you haven't picked up his cd, Rebel, then I highly recommend it.

Are you ready to Wrock?

So here is the dilemma: you are a huge Harry Potter fan but none of the music you listen to seems to ever sing about anything from the books OR the movies. What's up with that?!?

Well, problem solved! Yes, I still remember the first time I heard Wrock a few years ago. Wait, let me back up.

Wrock is how the cool kids (warning: definition of cool may vary by reader) refer to Wizard Rock. Now,I know we are all familiar with rapping Hobbits but this is totally different. Wrock bands focus their lyrics exclusively within the world of Harry Potter. Oh. Heck. Yeah.

There are many...many...many wrock bands, although the number that can be considered to actually play music that doesn't make your ear hole break is somewhat limited. You can explore wrock at the Wizrocklopedia, WizardRock, and Real Wizard Rock. You can even check out the monthly collection put out by the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club.

As with any genre, there are standouts. Here are a three groups that I have been listening to for a while. No super fancy write up,just a video and a link. You have time for that, right?

The Wrens = Awesome

For the drive this weekend I broke out one of my favorite albums ever, The Wrens' The Meadowlands. Now, I know that I always refer to an album as being in my top 10 favorites and if you add all those references up it is WAY more than 10 but this is firmly in my top 10. I can't even begin to guess the number of times I've listened to this cd straight through. I have their other albums as well but this one is the one I would recommend picking up first. Anyway, seeing as how I have The Wrens stuck in my head today, I figured I would post a few videos of songs off The Meadowlands. Enjoy!

Epic Rock

Mark Gormley - Without You



This is the most epic song/video of all time. The camera can barely capture the raw energy that IS Mark, thus causing him to appear to stand around and pose. The poor girl in the video is so amazed and enthralled by Mark that she can do nothing but walk back and forth over the same ten yards of beach for no real reason, her mind clouded with images of giant glasses and power stances. This song of "heartbreak and loneliness" is an anthem for all of us that have walked through weird forests then ended up on the moon, very much alone.

I recommend you check out his other songs and maybe pick up a cd or a tshirt. I know I am!

Chris Dane Owens thinks he is better than you

This is what happens you read too many fantasy novels, get a huge budget from your record company, and then try to cram every fantasy cliche into one 4 minute video. My personal favorite is the little mustache he has; I could almost take this video seriously but for that. All that being said, I can't wait for the rest of the trilogy. This is so awesomely bad it starts turning back towards awesome. Do any of you have the urge to buy Chris Dane Owens cd now?




Oddly, I do have a desire now to watch Stardust yet again.
